TIME WITH

Noémie Harvey

Founder of Arnold&Co, she shares with us the beginnings of the company as well as her vision for the years to come.

How would you describe your creative process?

Usually, when I need to find solutions or create something, I really need to disconnect to give my brain all the space it needs to think. All my best ideas have come to me when I gave myself that space. In each bag I create and have created, the basis has mainly been to fulfill a need, so I started from a need that I had and created something I love. Every bag sold on Arnold&Co is something I wear and deeply love.

What excites you the most about this process?

The feeling it gives me when people I don't know tell me how beautiful my bag is. These bags are bags that I have thought about, reflected on, and imagined myself, so seeing that people appreciate what I have done and find it beautiful really touches me. The greatest compliment someone can give me is, "Oh my god, is that a bag for a dog?" That means I've managed to create exactly what I wanted to create. A dog carrier bag without compromising my style. But beyond that, in the whole process, what I prefer is really creating the product. Imagining it, thinking about it, and then receiving it. Seeing my thoughts and ideas materialize.

Do you plan to open a store?

Given that we live in Quebec and that, for now, we plan to stay here, we would definitely like to open a store in Old Quebec that would also serve as a workshop and warehouse. For now, our bags are manufactured overseas, but eventually, I would like everything to be done here, in our workshop. One of my dreams would also be to open a store in Paris; I have a deep love for that city.

What are the three essential things in a day for Noémie?

Just three, that's hard to choose. Of course, Arnold, giving him kisses and taking care of him, that's one of the things I love most in the world. Otherwise, I would say working out, it helps me align my thoughts and refocus on what's really important, reduces my stress, and makes me feel good. The third thing would be dry shampoo (haha), honestly, I can't do without it. A big fan right here.

What are your two favorite brands at the moment?

Everlane, I think it's my favorite company, and it remains my favorite company, for several years now. What I love about them above all is the quality of their products and the choice of materials. Their products are relatively classic, which means they last over time. The clothes are durable and even after many washes, they remain beautiful.

Sézane, a beautiful European company that is mainly known for their knits. I find that what makes one piece stand out from another is mainly in the richness of the small details, and this company understands that well. Everything they do is beautiful.

How long have you been interested in fashion?

For as long as I can remember, it's been something that has fascinated me. When I was young, my aunts always told me that I was dressed like a fashion plate. I've always enjoyed dressing well and having fun with clothes and fabrics. I have a deep love for noble materials and the richness they can bring to a garment.

Do you have any ideas of what's next for Arnold&Co?

I would eventually like the company to have enough recognition and customers to be able to create collections every season. My wildest dream with Arnold&Co would be to have the chance to open a store and be able to showcase my collections there.

We would also like to have the opportunity to create a home division. Beyond fashion, Simon and I particularly love design, and it would be a great way for us to express that facet of ourselves that aligns with the values and mission of our company.
